(AllHipHop News) The late J. Dilla’s record and tape cassette collection became one of the most sought after musical items in recent history. The Detroit producer was the man behind the boards for classic tracks like De La Soul’s “Stakes Is High,” Common’s “The Light,” and Erykah Badu’s “Didn’t Cha Know?” so other artists, music fans, and record executives all wanted access to a lasting piece of Jay Dee’s legacy.
UHF Records store’s co-owner Jeff Bubeck happened to discover a box of records and tapes in a storage locker, Googled the name “James Yancey” that was on some mail, and realized he stumbled upon the collection of a Hip Hop legend. Eventually, Bubeck connected with Dilla’s mother, Maureen Yancey, and Ma Dukes was able to take some of Dilla’s unreleased music found on cassettes to create what became The Lost Scrolls.
Snap Judgement interviewed Bubeck and Ms. Yancey for a compelling audio documentary about what Ma Dukes calls finding the “ark of the covenant.”
