This summer TVLand kicked off the second season of Cedric the Entertainer’s sitcom The Soul Man also starring Wesley Jonathan, Niecy Nash and Jazz Raycole.  While last season debuted to over 1.9 million viewers, the Hot in Cleveland spinoff has been a success this summer.  The show is centered on a former R&B singer turned minister named Boyce Ballantine, who moved his entire family to St. Louis after taking over his father’s church.  The character of Reverend Boyce originated on a second season’s episode of Hot in Cleveland in which Cedric guest-starred eventually making room for Wesley’s role on the show as the reverend’s younger sibling.

Niecy Nash (Reno 911) stars as the reverend’s wife, Lolli. The show also features John Beasley (Everwood) as his father, and Jazz Raycole (My Wife and Kids) stars as Cedrick the Entertainer’s daughter. With the season underway, AllHipHop got the chance to speak with “Stamps,” Ced’s younger brother on the show, played by Wesley Jonathan.

Take a quick read of our quick Q and A with the up and coming talent Wesley Jonathan and make sure to check The Soul Man on Wednesday’s at 11/10 CST on TVLand.

wesleyjohnathanAllHipHop:     Tell me about your role in the Soul Man.

Wesley Jonathan: I play “Stamps” the younger brother of Cedric “The Entertainer”. He’s a carefree, doesn’t take life’s responsibilities too seriously, witty, often times silly – but a fun guy and cool character to play as a whole.

AllHipHop:     So you get to joke around a bit in role, how has your character evolved from last season?

Wesley Jonathan: Primarily from a physical perspective; gained a lot of muscle mass, and they factored it into my character, making it more of this seasons focus for me as well.

AllHipHop:   For those who are unfamiliar, where did you get your first break and how did you end up on Soul Man?

Wesley Jonathan: Got the call….Went in read the role, they liked me and Cedric’s chemistry when we read, went back in for a network read through and got the job.
