VH1 To Create Hip Hop Documentary Based On Steve Stoute Book

NEW HIP HOP DOCUMENTARY FEATURING DR DRE, NAS & MORE HEADED TO VH1

(AllHipHop News) Another Hip Hop documentary is on the way. VH1 is developing a four-part series based on former artist manager, advertising executive, and rap music insider Steve Stoute’s The Tanning of America: How Hip-Hop Created a Culture That Rewrote the Rules of the New Economy. The book is a historical account of Hip Hop’s rise in the marketing world and an examination of how a more diverse culture is changing the way businesses connect with consumers.

According to Deadline, VH1’s The Tanning of America: One Nation Under Hip-Hop will feature interviews from music legends Dr. Dre, Russell Simmons, Rick Rubin, Mariah Carey, and Nas. Well-known political figures Cory Booker and Al Sharpton, Hollywood power players Brett Ratner, Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, and fashion industry icon Tommy Hilfiger will also make appearances.

Cocaine Cowboys‘ Billy Corben is on to direct the project. Stoute will serve as an executive producer. The Tanning of America: One Nation Under Hip-Hop is scheduled to premiere in February 2014.
