Sunday, March 24, to celebrate the life and legacy of, J Dilla, an amalgamation of Hip-Hop convened at Webster Hall. Respected MCs, DJs, and producers championed the enduring spirit of Jay Dee in the 1st annual, NY Loves J Dilla concert.

Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey and Jarobi of A Tribe Called Quest emceed the sensational event. Pure creativity enveloped the evening. Organic lyricism, astute turntablism, and authentic appreciation openly radiated from the supporters and artists.

The unexpected, harmonic vocals, of Soul Khan  helped to elevate the expectations of the invited performers. Phony PPL, YC the CynicTanya MorganNemo Achida, 88 Keys, and DJ Parler (serving nothing but Dilla) undoubtedly satisfied everyone in attendance.

Talib Kweli‘s headlining performance closed the show. Highlighting the stage, Talib invited fellow wordsmiths, Pharoahe Monch and Keith Murray to join his set. Their collective lyricism evoked the memory of Jay Dee.

A portion of the proceeds will bolster the J Dilla Foundation along with Beatz By Girlz
