The Associated Press reports that another health care worker at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital has tested positive for the Ebola virus. The worker, whose identity has not been revealed, treated Thomas Eric Duncan at this hospital until he died Oct. 8th. This worker is now the second person to contract the virus here in the U.S.
The worker complained that she had a fever yesterday (Oct.14) and was in isolation within 90 minutes. How the worker contracted the disease is unknown but after fellow Texas Health Presbyterian nurse Nina Pham became the first to become infected in America last weekend, it was determined that there was a breach in protocol regarding removing the protective gear worn while treating Duncan.
“We are looking at every element of our personal protection equipment and infection control in the hospital,” Dr. Daniel Varga, chief clinical officer for Texas Health Resources, told the AP.
Health officials have said that 76 people at that hospital may have been exposed and are being monitored for symptoms.
