During an interview with Montreality, K.R.I.T. was asked if he felt he was underrated as compared to acts like Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole. The Mississippi-bred performer suggested his origins may play a part in why he has not reached the level of commercial success of K. Dot or Cole.

“I learned that I’m always gonna have to prove myself musically,” said K.R.I.T. “It might be cause of where I’m from. It’s still kind of hard for people to believe that it’s so much music or lyricism that can come from a place like Mississippi, based off of what they’ve been told or taught about Mississippi.”

The creator of the recently released Cadillactica album stated he is on a mission to prove there is positive music and culture coming out of the Deep South. K.R.I.T. also added that he has a great chance to have a long career, because he has certain skills that other rappers do not possess.

“The difference between me and a lot of these artists is that I can produce, not only for myself, but for other people,” K.R.I.T. explained. “I write all my lyrics. I don’t really need a writer. I mix all my own s**t, so that ensures that I’m gonna be around a long time.”
