EXCLUSIVE: DJ Skee Discusses His New Fuse Series “SKEE TV”

THE RENAISSANCE MAN IS SHINING A SPOTLIGHT ON MUSIC, SPORTS, FASHION & TECHNOLOGY

Scott “DJ Skee” Keeney is a modern-day renaissance man. The 31-year-old California resident’s life began in New York City, but Skee has expanded his brand to reach every corner of the globe. He went from hawking mixtapes as a teenager to hosting his own Sirius XM Radio show. The award-winning disc jockey eventually invaded the television market with AXS TV’s SKEE Live.

Skee is back on the small screen once again. This time the experienced interviewer has a series on Fuse called SKEE TV. The project was created in conjunction with The Los Angeles Film School.

LAFS and Skee are allowing the institution’s graduates to get firsthand, on-the-job experience during the production of the program. Each episode is filmed live at the Ivar Theatre on the school’s Hollywood campus with current students given access to watch the weekly taping.

The premiere episode of SKEE TV aired on April 9. Ohio rapper Machine Gun Kelly was the featured guest for the initial show, and viewers can expect other top stars to stop by the one hour program in the coming weeks.

Even with his new culture-based series on Fuse, Skee is still continuing his take over of the digital space with the internet platform Dash Radio and his popular YouTube channel.

His business portfolio also includes performing around the world, coordinating marketing campaigns for major corporations, producing tracks for artists and video games, and writing for ESPN. Add in his philanthropic work, and it is easy to wonder how Keeney finds time to even rest his eyes.

AllHipHop.com connected with DJ Skee to get the influential entrepreneur to speak about his new television venture. Skee also explains his method of managing so many extensive tasks at once.

How did the partnership with The Los Angeles Film School come together?

A mutual friend saw the bigger opportunity to build a huge media company and built in empowerment platform with a landmark marque studio in the center of Hollywood. We had already built a solid multi-media company with TV production studios, radio network and have garnered a credible voice within the exact demo of the students at The Los Angeles Film & Recording Schools. Sunset and Vine/Ivar is the perfect intersection. We just locked in our deal with Fuse for SKEE TV, and it just makes sense.

What other initiatives will be included in the partnership?

Building a storefront Dash Radio studio in the lobby. Creating innovative entertainment/entrepreneur programs. Creating hundreds of hours of original content which means more jobs and real world experience for students. More branded opportunities for Fortune 500 companies to take advantage of.

With so many entertainment platforms available, why did you decide to team with Fuse?

We have a history from working on The Collective – a show we helped produced with Fuse last year. They have such a great team and vision behind how they are building the network. They gave us a chance to create the definitive music show on cable, and we ran with it. They have been such amazing partners.

What role do the students play in the production of the show?

Almost a third of our production crew that we hired for our first show were alumni of the school. We will be creating many more jobs throughout the season. This show will be a first of its kind. Not only in terms of how it will be the definitive voice of culture and a springboard for artists and influencers into the mainstream, but also as a vehicle springboard for graduates of The Los Angeles Film School to break into Hollywood and TV production in the most current way available because of the show’s popularity and its digital crossover.

Can you describe the format of Skee TV?

The intersection of music, sports, and culture for today’s multicultural Millennials. Weekly live music performances and interviews in front of a live audience. With several original pre-taped segments baked in.

Can you discuss any future guests that will be appearing on the show?

We just had MGK, Action Bronson, O.T. Genasis, Steve Aoki, Mark Ronson, Wiz Khalifa, Future, Phantogram, and Matt and Kim.

How have you managed to balance creating the TV show, working with Dash Radio, doing music, and contributing to your other business ventures?

Simply put, I have an amazing team.

Ultimately, what do you hope viewers take away from watching SKEE TV?

We want every episode to have a little something for everyone, especially music fans of all genres. A weekly dose of what’s hot in music, sports, fashion, and tech.
