As a member of Chic, Rodgers helped create popular records including “Everybody Dance” and “Le Freak.” Their 1979 #1 hit “Good Times” was sampled on the classic Hip Hop single “Rapper’s Delight.” Rodgers also produced tunes for Diana Ross, Madonna, and David Bowie. He later won three Grammy awards for his contribution to Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories.

“The BMI Icon Award is given to an individual for their ability to connect people through song and defy musical expectations,” said Catherine Brewton, BMI Vice President, Writer-Publisher Relations. “Nile’s exceptional body of work, spanning decades, crosses genres and leaves a lasting impression. We’re so thrilled to present this honor to such a singular talent and incredible musician.”

Rodgers joins James Brown, Mariah Carey, the Jacksons, Snoop Dogg, Cash Money Record’s Bryan “Birdman” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams, George Clinton, Isaac Hayes, Little Richard, Al Green, and others as BMI Icon Award winners.
