“Michael Jordan broke the mold of the Magic Johnson/Larry Bird era. He came in and he had a gold chain, he wore longer shorts, and his sneakers were a different style,” said Fabolous. “It translated through. We got to where Allen Iverson was, where he looked just like some of the guys you’re hanging out with. A lot of streetball guys started being able to navigate their way to the NBA as well. Guys like Stephon Marbury. He actually played at my housing project before, so to see him in the NBA it was a deeper connection.”

The “Ball Drop” rhymer also spoke about the connection between basketball and Hip Hop.

“There’s an art to basketball. I think there’s a finesse, style, and passion to it,” he added. “I relate it to everything I’m doing. I’m a student of Hip Hop. I love where I come from. I’m looking at what’s going on today, and I fuse it in what works for me.”
