The critically acclaimed boxing movie Creed has three songs on the list: “Fighting Stronger” by Meek Mill, Jhené Aiko & Ludwig Göransson; “Grip” by Tessa Thompson, “Waiting For My Moment” by Donald Glover, Jhené Aiko, Vince Staples & Ludwig Göransson.

Eminem’s contribution to another film about the sweet science is in the running. Southpaw‘s “Phenomenal” is listed. The Academy is also still considering three songs from Spike Lee’s controversial Chi-Raq: Nick Cannon’s “Pray 4 My City,” Jennifer Hudson’s “I Run,” and Mali Music’s”Sit Down For This.”

Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again” from Furious Seven, Awreeoh’s “It’s My Turn Now” from Dope, The Weeknd’s “Earned It” from Fifty Shades of Grey are still in the competition. The Will Smith led movie Concussion has the song “So Long” by Leon Bridges among the finalists as well.

Only three Hip Hop acts have ever won the Oscar for Best Original Song. Em won it in 2002 for “Lose Yourself” from 8 Mile. Three years later members of Three 6 Mafia took home the golden statue for “It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp” from Hustle & Flow. Common and John Legend earned the Academy Award earlier this year for “Glory” off the Selma soundtrack.

The 88th Academy Awards nominations will be announced on Thursday, January 14, 2016. The 88th Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 28 and will be televised live on ABC.
