FANS REMEMBER LISA “LEFT EYE” LOPES

(AllHipHop News) Today marks the 14 year anniversary of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes’ tragic passing in Honduras.

The rapper who was one-third of Platinum selling and Grammy Award winning trio TLC would have been 45 years old today.

On Twitter #LeftEye began to trend nation-wide as fans posted .gifs, memorial photos and other various homages to the femcee.

Originally TLC started as a trio called “Second Nature,” but eventually the group would change the name to’TLC’ and become one of the all-time top-selling female groups in the history of music.

Signed to Arista’s LaFace label, which was managed by Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and L.A. Reid, TLC took the world by storm with a string of hits while promoting  safe sex and the use of condoms often attached to their clothes.

TLC’s 1992 debut LP, Ooooooohhh…On the TLC Tip, yielded a host of chart topping hits including  “Baby-Baby-Baby,” “Ain’t 2 Proud 2 Beg” and “What About Your Friends.”

Despite her success musically, “Left Eye” made headlines for her troubles with the law getting charged with felony arson after she set fire to Atlanta Falcon Andre Rison’s house in June of 1993.

Amidst the controversy, TLC also found huge success with their album Crazysexycool that featured their epic hit, “Waterfalls.”

“Left Eye” along with Organized Noize and Marqueze Etheridge, penned one of the group’s biggest hits despite the fact that “Left Eye” often had well-known issues with the group’s direction musically.

“Left Eye” would go on to release solo material but it never reached the success of TLC’s music.

As a soloist “Left Eye” also recorded a host of featured songs with acts ranging from N’sync to Donnell Jones (“U Know Whats Up”)

At one point “Left Eye” signed to Suge Knight’s Tha Row record label where she planned to release solo music under an alternate moniker N.I.N.A..
