Rap Group A Tribe Called Quests Gets Major Honor From ASCAP

MORE HONORS FOR A TRIBE CALLED QUEST

(AllHipHop News) The accolades continue to be showered upon Hip-Hop group A Tribe Called Quest, after the passing of group member Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor.

The latest honor to be the stowed upon the group is the ASCAP Golden Note Award, which will pay posthumous recognition to Phife who died in March of 2016, from complications relating to his fight with diabetes.

The ASCAP Golden Note Award is one of the highest acknowledgment that ASCAP bestows upon to its singers and songwriters. Past recipients include Dr. Dre, Lionel Richie, Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, Jay Z, Elton John , Quincy Jones and others.

“A Tribe Called Quest broke musical boundaries no one knew existed and reached a level of success that only very rare talents accomplish,” said ASCAP President Paul Williams. “We are very proud to present this extremely talented and innovative group with the ASCAP Golden Note Award.”

The ASCAP Golden Note Award is the latest recognition of A Tribe Called Quest’s enduring legacy.

The award also comes as the remaining group members of A Tribe Called Quest celebrate the 26th anniversary of their debut album People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm.

As Tribe celebrates, plans are being made to further pay tribute to their impact on Hip-Hop, by painting a mural of the group on the side of a dry cleaners in Queens.

There is also a petition being circulated to have Linden Boulevard, which the group made famous in their song “Check The Rhime,” renamed to A Tribe Called Quest Blvd.

A Tribe Called Quest will receive ASCAP’s Golden Note Award on June 23 during ASCAP’s 29th Annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards in Los Angeles.
