GoFundMe Campaign Raises Over $275,000 For Alton Sterling Family Scholarship

“WHEN WE UNITE WE ARE AMAZING”

(AllHipHop News) Often after a fatal shooting caused by a police officer makes national news, supporters of law enforcement launch crowdsourcing campaigns to help pay for the cop’s legal expenses.

After the recent killing of Alton Sterling by a Baton Rouge officer, The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl creator Issa Rae started a GoFundMe page to seek donations for the victim’s family.

Over $275,000 has been raised in just 17 hours. All the funds go to Sterling’s five surviving children.

“If you feel helpless, but want to play a small part in easing the burden of Alton Sterling’s family, consider donating to this scholarship fund for his 15-year-old son (and his other kids),” reads the GoFundMe description.

Sterling’s oldest son broke hearts across the country when he was seen breaking down live on television over his dad’s death. He had to be consoled as his mother spoke about the tragic events that took his father’s life.
