Sugar Hill Records Looks For Comeback In New Reality TV Show

CAN SUGAR HILL COMEBACK?

(AllHipHop News) Most people think of Roc-A-Fella or Bad Boy Records when it comes to Hip-Hop Empires, but there was one that preceded them by well over a decade.

Sugarhill Records got started in 1979 and paved the way for commercial rap with monster hits like “Rapper’s Delight” and Grandmaster Flash’s “White Lines.”

A new reality show will chronicle a new era of Sugar Hill and also determine who will lead the one-time music powerhouse. The “First Family of Hip Hop” will peer into the lives of Sugar Hill founded Sylvia Robinson’s son Leland Robinson, Sr. and the family. This family includes Darnell Robinson, Rhondo Robinson, Jr., Antonio Jordan, Lady Luck, Somaya Reece, Eseni Ellington, Kasin Robinson, Sasha Robinson and Leland Robinson, Jr., who are all looking to run the Sugar Hill Empire in the new era of Hip-Hop.

All of my kids have ideas for the future of Sugarhill,” Leland said in a press release, “but none of them have showed me that they can really run this empire.”

Lea Robinson boldly proclaims her stake, “Only one of us can be in charge. Sugarhill was started by a woman, it’s destined to be run by a woman again.”

First Family of Hip Hop premieres Sunday, January 15 at 9/8c.
