Mannie Fresh Discusses Lil Wayne Being A “Kid Genius”

THE PRODUCTION LEGEND SHARES HIS THOUGHTS ABOUT A YOUNG TUNECHI

(AllHipHop News) It has been twenty years since the world was first introduced to Lil Wayne.

After decades in the game, the man also known as Lil Tunechi is being celebrated by The Fader with a week of content covering the New Orleans native.

One article features Cash Money Records’ longtime in-house producer Mannie Fresh sharing thoughts about his time with Wayne before the fame.

Fresh discussed first meeting Dwayne Carter when the aspiring rapper was 12 or 13 years old.

The former Big Tymers member said:

You could tell he was a very intelligent kid. He was a kid genius. It wasn’t nothing for him to do homework. I thought rap was something that Wayne needed to do to channel some of the things that he wasn’t learning in school and some of the things that he wanted to say.

He later added:

The first time I heard him rap I thought, This little kid is phenomenal. He did the homework on everything. If we were talking about something, Wayne went and researched it.

Fresh was behind the boards for classic Lil Wayne songs such as “Tha Block Is Hot” and “Go D.J.”
