Donald Glover’s ‘Atlanta’ Delayed Until 2018, Signs Production Deal With FX

THE POPULAR ENTERTAINER HAS A LOT ON HIS PLATE

(AllHipHop News) Sorry Atlanta fans. The popular series will not be returning to television this year.

Deadline reports season two of the Donald Glover-led FX comedy series is scheduled to air in 2018.

Glover’s production schedule is causing the delay in more Atlanta episodes.

The Stone Mountain, Georgia representative is set to star as a young Lando Calrissian in the Han Solo Star Wars prequel.

FX is “fully supportive” of the postponement.

“We are thrilled for him,” stated the network’s CEO John Landgraf about Glover’s turn as Lando.

The cable channel’s openness to waiting a year for more shows could be due to the fact Atlanta was a commercial and critical success.

Atlanta’s premiere episode drew the highest viewers for cable comedy since 2013.

Glover recently won a Critic’s Choice Award (Best Actor – Comedy Series) and a Golden Globe award (Best Actor – Musical or Comedy).

The Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy was also rewarded to Atlanta.

There are also reports that Glover signed a production deal with FX.

Atlanta was just the beginning, the breakout comedy of the year and a series revered as much for its originality as its honest look at the experience of being aspiring, young and black in that legendary city,” said Nick Grad, president of Original Programming for FX. “We’re proud to partner with Donald in an overall deal that will allow him to continue turning his creative vision into incredible television.”
