Swizz Beatz & Just Blaze Discuss Their Epic Beat Battle With ‘Drink Champs’

SWIZZ AND JUST BLAZE TALK ABOUT THEIR BEAT BATTLE!

(AllHipHop News) Last week, Swizz Beatz and Just Blaze went head-to-head in a friendly beat battle that took place live on Instagram.

The two veteran music producers/deejays avoided a lot of publicity beforehand, but the face-off still managed to be one of the most talked about Hip Hop events of the year so far.

Following the over 2-hour battle, both Swizz and Just called into N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN’s Drink Champs podcast this week to discuss what led up to them making that memorable moment for the culture.

Swizz stated:

[Just] went on Instagram and he said what he felt which is all fun and love. I said what I felt which is all fun and love. I ended up doing an interview with him for something that he’s doing because it’s love. He wanted me to do something, but I was in the mix of doing other things. But I was like, “You know what? It’s Just. Let me make some time to make his interview happen for whatever he’s doing with his show with the producing stuff.” Then he brought up how him and his friend have been trying to take me out since “Money, Cash, Hoes.” I was like, “Y’all really been on this for a minute.” But it was love.

The Ruff Ryders affiliate also revealed the Jay Z, Nas, Jadakiss, and DMX record he played during the battle was set to be part of his album.

According to Swizz, the official version of the song will have the legendary emcees’ verses presented in a different order.

Just added:

It just so happened me and Swizz were hanging out this past Wednesday, just kicking it in the studio. That [conversation about battling] came up again. So we just decided alright, let’s do it on Friday. We had no plan. There was no idea. We had a little bit of a plan which is why things got off to a shaky start in the beginning. We had a plan that, due to technical issues, we couldn’t roll with.

We were initially talking about three sounds or four sounds or five sounds. It was going to be all new music. There were some technical issues at the last moment, so we had to go off whatever catalog he had on his computer and whatever catalog I had on my computer. It was great. It was fun for Hip Hop. It was one of the things that we knew it would be big. We didn’t know it would become a moment in the way that it did.

In addition, both hit makers announced more producers are discussing setting up their own beat battles as well as collaborating together on projects.

The “Swizz Beatz vs Just Blaze” battle was well received by the public. Video of the contest has collected over 870,000 views on Hot 97’s YouTube channel in just five days.

“I love what we sparked for Hip Hop. I can feel that the people felt it. That’s why I said the people won that day,” declared Swizz.
