A father who alleges R. Kelly has brainwashed his daughter into joining him in an abusive sex “cult” has called on the singer to sue him if his claims are false.
At a press conference on Monday, Timothy Savage claimed Kelly, 50, had manipulated his 21-year-old daughter Joycelyn and other women into becoming his sex slaves.
The “I Believe I Can Fly” singer denies the allegations and Joycelyn denied she was being held against her will in a video interview with TMZ.com, but refused to disclose her location.
In his own interview with the U.S. gossip website Timothy alleged his daughter was being prevented from telling anyone where she was and challenged the musician, real name Robert Sylvester Kelly, to sue him over his allegations.
“You want to know the reason why Miss Joycelyn Savage didn’t tell you where her location at? She’s not allowed to tell you her location,” he said in the video chat, adding, “Mr R. Kelly, if you want to file a lawsuit you should’ve filed it yesterday. I’m waiting on you. File the lawsuit. If that’s what you want to do I’ll see you in court, file it so everybody can see your dirty laundry.”
The Savages and another unnamed set of parents claim Kelly is controlling their daughters’ lives.
In an article published by BuzzFeed News on Monday, three former associates of the musician alleged he is controlling the lives of six women living in properties in Georgia and Chicago, Illinois.
However, in her video interview Joycelyn denied her father’s claims and said she was happy with her life.
“I am in a happy place in my life, and I’m not being brainwashed or anything like that. I just want everybody to know, my parents and everybody in the world, that I am totally fine,” she said. “I’m happy where I’m at, and everything is okay with me…I’ve never been held hostage or anything of that nature.”
According to BuzzFeed editors police officers in the two cities have performed welfare checks on the rented properties, but found nothing illegal.
