2009 Year In Review: Best Major & Indie Albums

The best major albums category has always been a major and contentious topic for Hip-Hop fans and critics. There are so many factors to consider, including sales, societal impact, artistic merits, among a plethora of other matters. And, the indies arguably have it worse. They dwell in a world where every fan is a rapper and downloading is like taking money from a person with $10. The art of the indie stands on its own two feet like any art. AllHipHop considers all there is to consider in the best album category and this year we extended the list to accommodate the number of quality albums that were released in 2009. As far as the majors, a lot of them were overlooked due to lack of music and video outlets, promotion, marketing and even apathy. Still these major and indies releases are worthy of your time in our eyes and ears.Best Major Albums:Raekwon- Only Built for Cuban Linx 2Jadakiss -The Last KissFabolous - Loso' WayRick Ross - Deeper Than RapJay-Z - Blueprint 3Eminem- RelapseWale - Attention DeficitDrake - So Far Gone EP UGK - UGK 4 LifeAsher Roth - Asleep in the Bread AisleKid Cudi - Man on the Moon: The End of DayBest Independent Albums:DOOM -Born Like ThisJ Dilla - Jay Stay PaidK'naan - TroubadourTech N9ne - KODdead prez - Information AgeSlaughterhouse - SlaughterhouseDorrough- Dorrough MusicCurren$y - This Ain't No MixtapeKRS and Buckshot - Survival SkillsMasta Ace and Edo G - Arts and EntertainmentDJ Spinna - Sonic SmashSlim Thug - Boss of All BossesMarco Polo and Torae - Double BarrelSkyzoo - The SalvationCormega - Born & RaisedApathy - Wanna Snuggle?Fashawn - Boy Meets WorldTiye Phoenix - Half Woman Half AmazinMos Def - The EcstaticBrother Ali - The Truth Is Here EP Slaughterhouse - SlaughterhouseJ Dilla - Jay Stay Paid
