Baby Goth’s “Sugar” music video featuring Wiz Khalifa is already at over 1.5M views on Youtube not even one month since its release.

The Arlington, Texas rapper first blew up on the scene after teaming up with Trippie Redd and Lil Xan on “Swimming”
<> in 2018, unleashing a trippy, cinematic visual to follow. Soon after, the world caught on to the blue-haired, face-tattooed sweetheart.

Currently signed to Hitway and Republic Records, Baby has been locked in the studio preparing for her forthcoming debut. AllHipHop caught up with to discuss her sound, smoking with Wiz Khalifa, and motherhood.

AllHipHop: I see Apple Music lists you as Pop, how would you describe your sound?

Baby Goth: It’s a mixture of everything. I like all types of music. I like jazz. I like the current wave. I like folk and heavy metal, like hardcore s##t. I like to include my favorite things of different genres in my own. I’d say bubblegum trap with a hint of rock.

AllHipHop: Being from Arlington, Texas, how does that play into your life and career?

Baby Goth: I was born in Arlington, lived there for a while. Then lived in Mansfield right next to it. I moved all around that Dallas metroplex area. It was really cool, the culture’s different there. When I was growing up, it was more judgmental against unnatural hair color and musicians, s##t like that. But Texas is a vibe, I always feel at home when I go back.

AllHipHop: When do you pick up the name Baby Goth?

Baby Goth: Funny story, I’ve always wanted to be named Baby because my favorite director is Rob Zombie. He had this movie House of 1000 Corpses, it was the first one I ever saw by him. His wife plays a character called Baby in it. I used to collect these porcelain dolls, they’d lie in my room. She had this one scene where she was in front of her house and there were baby doll heads all over the wall, I was like “man, that’s me.”

AllHipHop: At what point did you realize this music thing was for real?

Baby Goth: About a year ago, I was flown out. I’d work really hard to be on the Explore page on Instagram. It was a lot of self-promotion. I did share for shares, contest pages, singing pages, s##t like that. I’d post cover videos, two to three times a week. It kept building. I’d be on the Explore page for a little bit each week, in hopes that someone with more money or more connections would find me. Because that’s how Justin Bieber got discovered right? Off YouTube, so it must work on Instagram. [chuckles] They flew me out.

AllHipHop: Who’s they? Republic Records?

Baby Goth: Hitway. Daryl from Hitway, he flew me out. He showed me the studio, then we worked that week on the EP. I wasn’t signed to Republic or them yet. We did an EP, I signed with Hitway, then we went label shopping. We actually had a few different offers, but I picked Republic because they’ve always been my dream label.

AllHipHop: Why are they your dream label?

Baby Goth: They’ve got a really good line-up of artists. All their artists are really pushed, and they all got their own vibe. I wanted that.

AllHipHop: Talk about balancing motherhood & all that you do.

Baby Goth: It’s really hard, especially ‘cause I gotta work away from them. That’s the hardest part. It’s extra work, you gotta do twice as much.

AllHipHop: How old are they?

Baby Goth: 4 and 1. They’re back home. My ex is taking care of them. We co-parent, he takes care of them while I’m out and working.

AllHipHop: Who are your favorite artists?

Baby Goth: I like all types of music, I’ll give you one of every genre. I like Nat King Cole. I like Bob Dylan. I like the Devil Wears Prada. I like Ski Mask The Slump God, Billie Eilish. I like Missy Elliott, Tupac, Biggie. I like Del the Funky Homosapien.

AllHipHop: “Swimming” is at over 5.7M on Youtube alone. How’d you guys meet?

Baby Goth: Through Hitway. Trippie records all of his stuff with Igor (Mamet), which is his engineer and my engineer too. Trippie’s been hanging around with Hitway, they’re like family. I came into the picture so he just introduced me.

AllHipHop: Trippie is super talented. What’s the dynamic in the studio with him?

Baby Goth: He has a really cool artistic process. It seems like mostly everything is off the top of his head. He just goes in the booth, it’s really impressive.

AllHipHop: What was the best memory from shooting “Swimming" visual?

Baby Goth: It was just really cool so see everyone together in the same place. It was first time meeting Adam from No Jumper. Everyone was all together, it was cool. It was my experience with people from the industry all at once.

AllHipHop: Were you nervous? Did you have anxiety?

Baby Goth: I got anxiety everyday about everything, that’s just something I deal with. That’s what I use weed for mainly.

AllHipHop: Did you smoke with Wiz on set for “Sugar”?

Baby Goth: Yeah, we smoked on set. I hung out with him in his dressing room for a little bit, he taught me how to roll. I was tryna get advice on how to switch from Backwoods to joints because it’s healthier. I was just studying his process. He’s telling me “it’s way healthier for you, Backwoods is a bad habit.” I was like “good, I’ll take that advice.” [laughs] It’s a process, I gotta wean off. Also I can’t roll them like him. I gotta learn how to roll joints, then I can stop smoking Backwoods.
