BET Honors Dr. King's Legacy With 'Martin: The Legacy Of A King' Documentary

BET marks MLK Day with original documentary on Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and service.

(AllHipHop Features) As the nation celebrates the birth, life, trailblazing activism, and service of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., BET is premiering a Coodie & Chike produced original documentary entitled 'Martin: The Legacy of a King', to honor the civil rights leader's legacy.

Marking the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday, the special will highlight Dr. King’s methods of non-violent protests and faith-based belief in the overall greater good of humanity.

The 1-hour film offers a powerful look into Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s life as both a champion and leader of the Civil Rights Movement, and it also examines the impact of his legacy following his untimely death.

Narrated by Grammy Award-winning poet, J. Ivy, the documentary special also features testimonies from Rev. Al Sharpton, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Rev. William Barber, Amanda Seales, Deon Cole, Laz Alonzo, Andre Holland, Rotimi, Rapsody, Vic Mensa, LeCrae, and Patrisse Cullors.

"We wanted to show the other side of King that isn’t substantially illustrated in most school’s history lessons. When you think of a person who stood on the front lines and fought with the weapon of love, King comes to mind first for many people. He had to have courage like no other! We were extremely happy we had an opportunity to tell Martin Luther King Jr.'s story with friends of ours that just so happen to be superstars. Deon Cole, Amanda Seales, Andre Holland, and of course J.Ivy. We all go way back,” stated Coodie and Chike.

Today we celebrate a true visionary, activist, trailblazer, pioneer, catalyst for change, amazing orator, and galvanizing force for the advancement of civil rights for African Americans.

Through the featured captivating commentary of Dr. King himself, viewers will also be moved, once again, by his profound dream and rise to action.

Tune into the documentary tonight January 21, 2019 at 9 PM ET on BET.
