Video interviews by Nnenna B
(AllHipHop Features) It is that time again, but Black girls are always rocking. Black Girls Rock!, the long-running women and girls’s empowerment movement is back and on BET. The annual event honors the magic and achievements of Black women and girls. This year, AllHipHop’s own Nnenna B took to the red carpet of the coveted event and talked to all those that were willing to talk about all things Black.
Lyrical queen Rapsody talked about her groundbreaking, Grammy nominated album Laila's Wisdom. “People remember how you made them feel, versus any award so I’m full, she said. Also, Naturi Naughton (Tasha from “Power”) reveals the importance of Black women. “We are the future and we continue to encourage every generation,” Naturi said. “And we’re strong!” Singer Lloyd got deep when asked what he would change for Black women in the entertainment industry. “What would I change? The subjugation of the female body. Its beautiful and it should be celebrated, but it shouldn’t be exploited or undervalued,” he said. Lil Mama, a severely under-ranked rap talent said, “I think a Black girl who rocks is a confident woman, who knows her strength, her power and puts it in the community.”
Black Girls Rock! airs tonight on BET tonight (Sunday, September 9) on BET at 8 p.m. ET. Black Girls Rock! is an annual award show, Beverly Bond, and covers the spectrum of achievement like entrepreneurship, medicine, music, entertainment, philanthropy and more. The 2018 celebrants include Mary J. Blige, Naomi Campbell and Judith Jamison.
