If you have a cosign from Pharrell, chances are you’re extremely talented.

Insert The Reasn, a singer, songwriter, and rapper from Missouri who has come to Los Angeles to turn his dreams into a reality.

Growing up in church and doing music for as long as he can remember, the “Slow” artist can’t wait for what 2019 has in store.

AllHipHop caught up with The Reasn in Los Angeles, a few days before his LA show with Watch The Duck, a duo signed to Pharrell’s i am OTHER label.

AllHipHop: For those who don’t know, who is The Reasn?

The Reasn: The Reasn is a new wave of music. Just bringing back some of the old and bringing the new also. A lot of old vibes. A lot of great new vibes. A live band, but still that new age swag.

AllHipHop: Where do you fit in the realm of hip-hop and R&B?

The Reasn: Right in the middle. I can rap. I can sing. I’m still in this pop lane. Whatever I’m feeling that day, I’m gonna record. It usually comes out in one of those pockets.

AllHipHop: What’s the biggest takeaway you’ve got from being in the studio with Pharrell?

The Reasn: Perfection. I really admire what people do in their careers, etc. Just watching somebody who’s not where I’m at, I just learn as much as I can. I learn something every day.

AllHipHop: Did he give you any advice at all?

The Reasn: Just stay on my path. Stay me. Don’t try to fit in. Be you and it’ll all come. It’s hard sometimes when you don’t exactly make trap trap music. You wanna switch up and get in on what’s going on right now, but when you create your own lane, you’re good for life.

AllHipHop: Are you signed to him?

The Reasn: No, I’m staying independent as an artist for as long as I can. The offers just started so it feels good to be wanted, but right now I just wanna stay independent.

AllHipHop: What is your take on the music industry?

The Reasn: Nothing’s really real. But if you can keep yourself and put out great music, then it’s a great way to provide for your family.

AllHipHop: What was the inspiration behind your name?

The Reasn: The reason for it changes every day if that makes sense. I learn why I named myself this as I go. [laughs] It started out as I wanted to be a voice of reason for the new revolution of music. Bring back real music. But every day it changes.

AllHipHop: You recently released “Slow.” What was your mindstate creating this one?

The Reasn: I was feeling that “Dirty Diana” feel. Something big, like R&B meets pop meets hip hop. My producer/partner Joei Jo, we just came up with something new. Everybody started rocking with it so we put it out. We got a lot of that on the way this year.

AllHipHop: Best memory opening for B.o.B. on tour?

The Reasn: That whole thing was just a great experience. Going to places I’ve never been. From people not knowing who I am and making them fans, every city was great to me. I learned a lot from him. He brought it whether the crowd was full or not completely sold out, he still had the same energy and that really inspired me.

AllHipHop: How’d you link with him?

The Reasn: His manager just heard me. Everything really happened through God. He just happened to hear me somewhere, he was like “hey come on man, I think you have it.” It went from doing the first 5 cities to 44.

AllHipHop: What’s a normal day in the life? Walk us through.

The Reasn: Strip clubs, buffets, alcohol, and live shows. [laughs] I’m just playing. Seriously though, that’s about it. Everything is music. Life, going out, trying to be real, meet new people. Trying to change the world. I guess you can’t change the world in the strip club but hey, do my best. Those ladies need a talking to.
