Grand Daddy I.U. And Friends Recreate The Essence on His Latest LPGrand Daddy I.U

Straight out of an NYC underground portal from the 90s is the latest effort from Long Island legend Grand Daddy I.U. aptly entitled The Essence. Featuring some of the game's best unknown and unsung emcees including Smif N Wessun's Steele, MOP's Fame, Rah Digga, Craig G, Large Professor, songstress Monifah, Sadat X of Brand Nubian, Marquee formerly of Femme Fatale, Duck Down's Ruste Juxx, Organized Konfusion's Prince Po, Method Man, Brothamanz' Shortee Sha, Babs Bunny of making The Band and many more, I.U. took his position behind the boards to exclusively produce the entire project.

With such a plethora of established and up and coming artists, I.U. set a precedence with The Essence in its creative process. The LP's purpose seems to be more for the vibe of the music rather than the commercial success of it; the essence of what the culture of Hip Hop was birthed from. From the intro of the album by Queens rapper Shortee Sha to the album's title track, this 14 track gem is a great listen when searching for a sound lost and forgotten by the industry.
