Today one of the biggest names in R&B released his fifth studio album, The Rebirth 2, and the high tech theme combined with a packed track list of hits has given his fans A LOT to enjoy. Eric Bellinger has such an epic career behind him that when beef starts about the title of “King of R&B,” rather than getting mad he shares a video of himself and Usher vibing in the studio and laughing to themselves. But lucky for us, he hasn't let his status interrupt his drive to create great music. The prolific collection of songs he composed for The Rebirth 2 is enough for two albums. But instead of holding out, he chose to drop it all, a combined 32 solid offerings on two discs.
The album builds from an atmospheric intro to Bellinger’s now-famous ode to the forbidden fruit, “Apple Berry Nana.” Then the foreplay moves seamlessly into action on “Type a Way,” the surprise banger with Chris Brown that lit up everyone’s playlists when it dropped yesterday. The theme continues as BJ the Chicago kid brings an extra dose of soul to “Back it Up,” and Bellinger joins forces with frequent collaborator Ne-Yo (Bellinger's partner in the funny and creative “Dirty Dancin” video from last year’s Eazy Call album).
“Shadows in the Dark,” a trippy slow jam featuring Jeremih, followed by the uptempo Nipsey Hussle collab “That’s Why” round out the first half, and in the second half Bellinger keeps the hits coming one after another as the sexiness builds to dangerous levels. Collaborations with Ma$e, Dom Kennedy and Problem along with some freaky storytelling in the lyrics and smoking hot production make this collection a serious mood. Eric Bellinger is celebrating The Rebirth 2 release with a first-of-its kind virtual reality experience for his fans, a VR listening party in Los Angeles and New York as well as a show at the world famous SOB's.
