Going viral with "Slingshot" was a big deal for Lil Xan, but he came back with a vengeance the next time around when he released a video for his single "Betrayed." The Cole Bennett-directed visual has amassed over 20 million views on YouTube in one month, with hundreds of thousands of plays on digital streaming services thus far.
Lil Xan sat down with GENIUS to break down some of the bars on the track "Betrayed." The L.A. native says it is personal to him because he was addicted to Xanax at one point, but finally realized it wasn't for him. He does not indulge in that or similar pills now and doesn't condone anyone doing so. He actually raps about not taking drugs on "Betrayed."
“I was painfully addicted to Xanax for like two years of my life, so anybody trying to tell me I’m a poser, can shut the fuck up. I know what it’s like to be addicted to that. I was lucky enough to get off of that shit… I kept ending up in the hospital from withdrawing. I was doing Norcos too, so I was withdrawing from opiates and benzos. It landed me in the hospital too many times and one day I was like, ‘This ain’t fun. I can’t live this life.’ A lot of rappers don’t be talking about not doing drugs, you know. It’s like the opposite way. So it’s like refreshing I think.”
Lil Xan will be performing at The Roxy this Saturday for his first headlining show in Los Angeles.
