Rapper Aina Brei’Yon Expresses The Pain of Heartache with “You Robbed Me”

Lyricism meets Reality as Brei’Yon Speaks the Truth about Love

By: Ne’ Richa (@LiteShado)

Combining an edge of intense conviction mixed with a deliberate expression of regret, Aina Brei’Yon desires to understand why she was left broken and confused on her single, “You Robbed Me.”

The track was written and produced by Brei’Yon for 3K9 Productions, and offers a slow, sensual music bed of echoed pads and simple percussion that encapsulates your mind and inspires you to think about all the heartbreaks you’ve ever experienced. In the video clip, which was directed by Brei’Yon for 3K9 Visions, she stares into the eyes of the viewer as she delivers a powerful, introspective verbal monologue that details her run-in with a love interest that turns out to be everything except real. The hook captures the mood explicitly and simply, as she melodically raps, “You kinda robbed me, You kinda shot me down… You said this was love, you said that I made you smile…”

Her anger is palpable, yet tamed, and gives a small look into the emotional openness that she provides on her album, The Black Lion, which was released on August 8th. It’s easy to say that many can relate to the struggle, and I’m sure most can agree that this is a classic case of being taken for granted by those we love the most. “You chose this n##ga over me?!”, she raps, and the angst in her voice is very understandable, based simply on the fact that it exposes the vulnerability that comes with putting yourself out there for love, and the risk of being left out alone. She illustrates the painful realization that, after investing so much, you may very well be building up a person for someone else.

Cold world, indeed.
