(AllHipHop News) Filmmaker Steve McQueen's historical picture 12 Years A Slave is garnering widespread acclaim and being mentioned as a potential Academy Award recipient. Apparently not one to simply bask in the praise of the moment, McQueen is the process of creating a new drama series for HBO.
Deadline reports that the British director is working on a "provocative exploration" of a young black man's initiation into New York City's high society for the paid subscription network. McQueen is co-writing the unnamed project with World War Z's Matthew Michael Carnahan.
Executive producers for the show include Hip Hop mogul Russell Simmons, Iain Canning, and Emile Sherman. Canning and Sherman produced McQueen's 2011 film Shame starring Michael Fassbender. Simmons signed a first-look development deal with HBO earlier this year.
