21 Savage's Lawyer Addresses "Misunderstandings" Involving ICE Detention

The rapper's manager tweets about being from the ATL.

(AllHipHop News) A lot of Hip Hop fans were shocked over the weekend when 21 Savage was detained by ICE for allegedly being in the United States illegally. The government says the Grammy nominee (born Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph) is a British citizen who overstayed his 2005 visa.

“We are working diligently to get Mr. Abraham-Joseph out of detention while we work with the authorities to clear up any misunderstandings,” said 21's lawyer Dina LaPolt.

Throughout his career, 21 Savage discussed growing up in the Atlanta area. The reports that he was actually born in another country led to social media users questioning his authenticity.

His manager, Kei Henderson, responded on Twitter to someone writing about being born in another state but claiming Atlanta. Henderson tweeted, "I was born in Cleveland 🤷🏾‍♀️."
