3rd Annual H2O Film Festival Kicks Off In NYC Next Week

The 3rd Annual H2O

[Hip-Hop Odyssey] International Film Festival begins November 1-7th at the Bronx

Museum of Arts.

Over 100 Hip-Hop

films, documentaries, narratives, PSA’s and shorts will be showcased,

while 29 new Hip-Hop themed films will make their debut at the festival.

Hip-Hop artists

such as Kool Herc, Masta Ace, Kurtis Blow, Brand Nubian, Teddy Ted & Special

K (The Awesome 2), Roxanne Shante, UTFO, Busy Bee, Nefertiti, Sway, Rahzel and

Medusa will attend, while Nelson George, Warrington Hudlin, Neema Barnett, Jahmani

Perry and others round out the filmmakers who will make appearances.

This year’s

theme to the event is “The Business of Hip-Hop Filmmaking,” while

each year women in film are highlighted as well in the conference’s signature

“Women in Hip-Hop” panel.

This year the conference’s

"Clothes On, Minds Sharp: Women Calling the Shots In Film and Media"

panel aims to offer educational tips to further empower women in the filmmaking


In addition to

the flicks, H2O will present The 2nd Annual Odyssey Awards, honoring Hip-Hop

films in 12 categories, including Best Documentary Feature, Best Narrative Feature

and the Freestyle Award for Experimental Film.

The awards take

place on November 7th, the final evening of the festival. Honorees include Kurtis

Blow, Queen Latifah and Hip-Hop business mogul, Russell Simmons.

The 2nd Annual

Odyssey Awards will be hosted at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center on the Borough

of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) campus.
