(AllHipHop News) Swedish officials formally charged Rakim "A$AP Rocky" Mayers with assault, according to multiple reports. The New York City-born rapper will have to remain in custody in the European country.
"I have today commenced criminal proceedings against the three individuals suspected of assault causing actual bodily harm, having come to the conclusion that the events in question constitute a crime and despite claims of self-defense and provocation,” said Daniel Suneson of the City Public Prosecution Office.
Rocky was accused of physically attacking two individuals on June 30 in downtown Stockholm. The prosecution dropped one of their cases due to a lack of evidence. Portions of the incident were captured on video.
"It is worth noting that I have had access to a greater amount of material than that which has previously been available on the internet," added Suneson. Rocky's legal team claimed the 30-year-old entertainer acted in self-defense after being provoked by the alleged victims on the street.
Two other men arrested with A$AP Rocky were also charged with assault. Stockholm's District Court has not set a start date for the trial which means it is unclear how long the defendants will be detained.
