A Tribe Called Quest Sets Record For Longest Gap Between #1 Albums For A Hip Hop Act

THE LEGENDARY HIP HOP GROUP ADDS ANOTHER ACCOLADE TO ITS LEGACY

(AllHipHop News) Don’t call it a comeback, but A Tribe Called Quest has the most popular album in the country for the first time in two decades.

We Got It from Here… Thank You 4 Your Service lands at #1 on the Billboard 200 with 135,000 equivalent album units.

ATCQ’s first-week totals include 112,000 traditional album sales.

The last time the legendary Hip Hop group topped the album chart was in 1996 when Beats, Rhymes and Life made it into the pole position.

That 20 year and three months interval gives A Tribe Called Quest the record for the longest span between top-selling albums for a Hip Hop act.

Jeezy just broke the record two weeks ago when Trap Or Die 3 became the Atlanta rapper’s first #1 album since The Recession in 2008 – a gap of eight years and two months.

We Got It from Here… Thank You 4 Your Service was the first release from ATCQ since the death of founding member Phife Dawg.

It is expected to be the final LP from the New York-based collective.
