Akon's Launching A New Video-Streaming App

Take a look at Akon's latest business.

(AllHipHop News) R&B singer Akon is expanding his reach in the world of technology with a new video-streaming app.

Akon has joined forces with bosses at electronics giant Samsung to launch the subscription-based program Cinemoi Channel, which will provide inspiring content 24 hours a day.

"We're always looking for new ways to engage our customers," he shares in a statement. "With the Cinemoi Channel app, we're responding to consumer demand, helping deliver content through a new experience that makes finding entertainment easy for our customers."

The app, designed for smart TVs and cell phones, will allow subscribers to watch movies both old and new, as well as TV series and talk shows.

"Akon is a really smart philanthropist and cares about putting meaningful content into the world," Cinemoi president Daphna Ziman explains. "We didn't just partner to put out an app, we came together to share media that inspires and hopefully opens people's minds."

It's the latest tech venture for Akon - he recently announced his own cryptocurrency, called Akoin, in his family's native Senegal, aimed at helping to boost the African economy.

He has also been busy building up the solar power market in Africa as part of his Lighting Africa project, through which he hopes to provide affordable electricity to those who have none.
