Aretha Franklin Scores Highest Billboard 200 Chart Entry In 46 Years

R.I.P. to the heavily sampled icon.

(AllHipHop News) All hail the Queen of Soul. Following her passing on August 16, Aretha Franklin's 30 Greatest Hits re-entered the Billboard 200 chart.

The LP jumped all the way to #7 with 35,000 units for the week ending 8/16. That means 30 Greatest Hits gained those numbers off just one day of eligibility.

An Aretha Franklin album has not charted that high on the Billboard 200 since Amazing Grace peaked at #7 in 1972. The iconic singer's catalog includes seven Top 10 entries. 1967's I Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You and 1968's Lady Soul reached the #2 spot.

Over on the Hot 100, the Rock & Roll Hall Of Famer was able to secure seventeen Top 10 hits and two #1 singles throughout her career. Aretha's sampled voice can also be heard on Hip Hop records like Mos Def's "Ms. Fat Booty," Cam'ron's "Daydreaming," and Rapsody's "Laila's Wisdom."
