August Alsina Was A Pill Head But He Got It Together Thanks To Will Smith

Thankfully, the singer has overcome his hardcore addiction.

(AllHipHop News) R&B singer August Alsina turned to Will and Jada Pinkett Smith for help for his addiction to Percocet prescription pills.

The singer developed an addiction to the pain medication after falling off the stage in 2014, when he spent three days in a coma.

He was subsequently prescribed the painkillers to cope with his injuries, but he soon realized his reliance on the medication was getting out of control.

"I literally had an endless supply of Percs," he told Jada on an episode of her "Red Table Talk" web series, during which they addressed various addictions. "If you asked my brother, anybody... I'm like, raining Percs. Off my body, off my house. I was literally raining pills like Skittles (candy)."

Alsina reveals he turned to the actors to help him get clean, but it was Jada's emotional reaction to his addiction that really opened his eyes to how serious his problem was.

"I was on tour or something and you called me and you literally broke down about it," he said. "That was the thing. To feel your emotion and to hear you bawling. That was a reality check for me. I was like, 'Wow, if someone else can love you that much that it hurts them, why doesn't it bother you that you are actually hurting yourself?' That moment really changed the trajectory of my life."

The singer decided to sober up at home instead of seeking treatment at a rehab facility.

"It has taken some serious self-determination on his part," Jada remarked.

Alsina's drug confession comes after he revealed last year (17) that he has a liver disease which causes his autoimmune system to fight against itself.
