Ava DuVernay To Make A Netflix Documentary About Prince

The acclaimed filmmaker is set to tell the story of the late musical icon.

(AllHipHop News) Ava DuVernay's filmography includes the documentaries Compton in C Minor, This is the Life: How the West Was One, August 28: A Day in the Life of a People, and 13th. According toDeadline, the Selma director is now taking the helm for a Netflix doc about Prince Rogers Nelson.

DuVernay declared, "The only way I know how to make this film is with love. And with great care. I’m honored to do so and grateful for the opportunity entrusted to me by the estate."

The Prince Estate gave the filmmaker access to archived recordings, photographs, and unreleased content. DuVernay is also creating a five-part limited series about the Central Park Five for Netflix.

Prince passed away on April 21, 2016, at the age of 57. During his life, the Minneapolis native released over 30 studio albums and earned five #1 singles. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee won seven Grammy Awards and an Academy Award.
