Beast Coast Unites For Debut Full-Length Album 'Escape From New York'

John Carpenter's 1981 sci-fi film inspired the LP's title.

(AllHipHop News) The Hip Hop collective known as Beast Coast came together for their first official compilation album. Escape From New York is a 13-track project featuring the representatives of Pro Era, Flatbush Zombies, and The Underachievers.

All the members contributed to the sound of the collection. Beast Coast's de facto leader, Joey Bada$$, appears on songs such as "Coast/Clear," "Left Hand," "Rubberband," and "Puke."

“There was definitely some nostalgic vibes here, but there’s nothing more powerful than the present moment, that’s really what it was,” Joey relayed to Complex. “We didn’t look back, not once.”

Escape From New York is the culmination of over seven years of collaborations and concerts featuring the Brooklyn-bred crew. Rapper/producer Kirk Knight explained that Beast Coast's camaraderie is not just based on crafting tunes.

"That's probably why the music didn't come for so long," said Knight in the Complex article. "At the end of the day, this is way more than us just making songs together.”
