'Black-ish' Creator Kenya Barris Tapped To Write The Script For 'Coming To America 2'

Eddie Murphy is expected to return as Prince Akeem in the sequel to the classic comedy.

(AllHipHop News) A second part of Coming To America is in the works. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the script for the film is being written by Black-ish creator Kenya Barris.

Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies, 50/50) is set to direct. The original Coming To America screenwriters, Jarry Blaustein and David Sheffield, were initially hired to pen the next chapter.

Longtime fans of the classic movie will be happy to know Eddie Murphy (Prince Akeem Joffer) is reportedly involved with the development of Coming To America 2. The iconic comedian is also expected to star in the sequel.

Coming To America made over $128 million domestically. It opened at #1 the week it was released and ended the year with the third highest box office gross of 1988.

Besides his work on Black-ish, Barris' résumé includes credits on Girlfriends, The Game, Barbershop: The Next Cut, and Girls Trip.
