Bow Wow Explains How Jail Changed His Life

The rapper/actor has turned over a new leaf and is focused on his mental health.

(AllHipHop News) Bow Wow went through a "life-changing moment" when he was imprisoned after being arrested when his girlfriend claimed he had beaten her.

The rapper, who now goes by his birth name Shad Moss, was detained by officers in February in Atlanta, after his on-again/off-again girlfriend Leslie Holden called police.

The 32-year-old was charged with "battery substantial physical harm," despite telling officers that Holden had assaulted him.

In an interview with Real 92.3 LA’s Big Boy’s Neighborhood, Bow Wow opened up about the situation, and said that while he maintains he was wrongfully arrested, the process had a dramatic effect on him.

"It’s still pending, it’s still open, still out on bail," he said of the case. "First of all, I shouldn’t have been locked up period. The pictures, you saw that. The pictures say it all. Not to put the blame on her or put the blame on me… When I was in that cell it was a life-changing moment for me. I felt as far as my own self, I needed that. I needed that moment to think, to understand who I was."

Bow Wow also admitted that the scandal formed part of what turned out to be a difficult year for him.

Speaking about his battle with depression, he explained: "I was depressed. I was going through it. I wanted to tell people you can have the most money in the world and it don’t really heal you. I was going through a lot last year. Not even career-wise. I was going through a lot of things personally."
