(AllHipHop News) Simmie **“**Buddy” Simms III is on pace to be the next breakout Hip Hop artist from Compton, California. His debut studio album, Harlan & Alondra, will land on July 20 via RCA Records.
Yesterday, the Pharrell protégé debuted the “Hey Up There” single featuring Ty Dolla $ign on Ebro Darden’s Beats 1 radio show. The Apple Music interview also included Buddy recalling the time he ran into R&B/Pop superstar Rihanna at the Coachella festival.
“I performed and Rihanna was there watching me perform. I met Rihanna like two, three Coachellas ago,” said Buddy. “I’m on acid watching Schoolboy Q, doing the Lil B cook dance with my shirt off, drenched in sweat.”
The 24-year-old Angeleno continued, “She’s walking by in the crowd with security, and we catch eyes. I don’t know what she expected me [to do] - to stop or fan out because it’s Rihanna. I start turning up more, get a little closer. We’re dancing together now. Then her security was like, ‘This n-gga’s on drugs. Let’s keep going through the crowd.’ They weren’t f-cking with me.”
According to Buddy, RiRi did remember him at a future Coachella, and they took a picture together. Buddy is now getting ready to head on tour with his “Black” collaborator A$AP Ferg and DMV emcee IDK. He’s also expected to take part in the festivities at this weekend’s BET Awards in Los Angeles.
