Cardi B Declares Herself "The King Of New York" On “Who Want The Smoke?” Track

Did the "Trap Selena" take shots at Nicki Minaj and Azealia Banks on Lil Yachty's new song?

(AllHipHop News) Compton emcee Kendrick Lamar lit a fuse when he declared himself the "King of New York" on 2013's "Control." This year has seen Brooklyn rapper 6ix9ine catch backlash for claiming the title too.

Bronx native Cardi B is now declaring she deserves to have the crown. On Lil Yachty's new record "Who Want The Smoke?” with Offset, the 25-year-old rapstress says, "I get the money, I am the king of New York."

The proclamation follows Cardi's massively successful 2018. Her Invasion of Privacy album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, earned Gold status, and was among the best reviewed rap projects of the year.

She also became the first female rapper to have two #1 singles on the Hot 100 chart. Additionally, over the last six months, Belcalis won Top Rap Female Artist at the Billboard Music Awards, two BET Awards, and two iHeartRadio Music Awards.

Some listeners took the "king" line as a response to Nicki Minaj, who named her upcoming album Queen. There were other lyrics that were rumored to be directed at the veteran rapper or possibly Azealia Banks.

"Don't know what's on their mind, but it should be retirement. Get the AARP or this AR get to firing. They don't want smoke with me. The diamonds is choking me. Their p-ssy need potpourri. These b-tches is 0-3," raps Cardi.
