(AllHipHop News) Cardi B shocked a lot of critics with her debut LP Invasion of Privacy. The 2018 project won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album and has spent 70 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart.
Fans of the NYC-raised superstar are patiently waiting for her sophomore set. During a sit down with Big Boy's Neighborhood, Cardi was asked about the progress of her next album.
“I haven’t been in the studio for like two months. I just started getting back in the studio, right now, in August. Because I was like, ‘Damn, before I lock in to do my album I gotta collect the bag,” explained Cardi.
She added, “I was like, ‘Wait a minute now. If I’m gonna be sitting my ass up, doing an album, I’m gonna get my checks first. A lot of artists be like, ‘Hey, can you get on this record?’ It’s so many, and it’s just like, 'I swear I’m gonna get on it. Just give me until August.' I’m just working on their music. I’m brainstorming for my next project.”
So far in 2019, Cardi B released the records "Please Me" with Bruno Mars and “Press.” She also appeared on recent songs by City Girls, Meek Mill, Offset, Blueface, DJ Khalid, Lil Nas X, and Ed Sheeran. The Atlantic recording artist hinted that a pre-album collection of music could arrive prior to the official follow-up to Invasion of Privacy.
“I’m in single mode, maybe I’m in a ‘put a little project out’ mode, and then I go into album mode,” said Cardi. “It’s definitely more pressure to do my second album because my first album did so good. It’s like, ‘How the hell am I gonna beat that?’ I feel like I have an ear for a hit. I feel like I got it. I don’t know, maybe I don’t, but the numbers say something else.”
There has been a lot of talk about female rap collaborations lately. Many Hip Hop fans keep requesting a new school version of Lil Kim's classic "Not Tonight (Ladies Night Remix)" from 1997 which featured Da Brat, Missy Elliott, Angie Martinez, and Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes. Cardi commented about a possible femcee posse cut.
"I want to do this remake - not of 'Ladies Night' - but it's definitely a Lil Kim song. I ain't gonna say it, but I definitely got a couple of people. I would say it, but it's a secret. I got a couple of people in mind," revealed the 26-year-old performer. "I know I'm gonna make it happen... I've really been having this idea. It's an idea from a Lil Kim song that I've been wanting to do for a very long time, and I want to put four female rappers [on it]. Then I want to put one female that is not signed."
