(AllHipHop News) Belcalis "Cardi B" Almánzar had hoped her testimony in a pending lawsuit would remain confidential, but a judge ruled the rap star's deposition would not be kept from the public or redacted. As a result, The Blast has published portions of the transcript from April 19.
Kevin Michael Brophy Jr. is suing Almánzar over allegedly using his likeness on her Gangsta B*tch Music, Vol. 1 cover without his permission. The tattoo model is seeking damages in excess of $5 million. Brophy claimed he was "devastated" by the fake image of a man performing cunnilingus on the Love & Hip Hop alumnae partly because his wife believed he had betrayed her.
"I never really cared to, like see, because I didn’t give a f*ck. I cared for me, and it was, like, all about me," responded Cardi when Brophy's lawyer questioned her about the distinct tattoo on the mixtape cover. "I didn’t give a f*ck about this tattoo. I didn’t give a f*ck about none of that sh*t. So, when it comes to that, you need to go to the photographer, or whoever edited this sh*t, because that’s who did it --- clearly."
During the deposition, the opposing attorney asked Cardi what was the intention of the imagery presented on Gangsta B*tch Music, Vol. 1. The Bronx-born entertainer answered by trying to explain her gangster persona being influenced by her upbringing.
“I mean I am a gangster. Like, I feel like I am a gangster, like I’m a gangsta. You know? I’m a stand-up girl. You know what I’m saying. I'm a good girl," offered Cardi. "But you know I have a lot of heart. So I consider myself a gangster. I'm from the hood. And that's what people from the hood like to consider themselves. I have the heart of a lion; so that's what I am."
The Invasion of Privacy album creator also said, "Your client is claiming that’s he distressed. Where is the proof of him being distressed? How is your client now claiming that I used his likeness for my thing? Nobody knows him. Nobody knows what his face looks like. How can you be distressed? How can I ruin your life? It doesn’t make sense to me."
