(AllHipHop News) Over the last few weeks, Charlamagne Tha God has had to deal with social media users reacting to a 2001 rape case involving a 15-year-old girl, a clip of him telling a story about asking his then-girlfriend (now wife) Jessica Gadsden if he raped her while she was drunk, and a VladTV interview where he admitted hitting a woman as a teenager. The controversy got enough attention that CTG had to address it.
Yesterday, Charlamagne uploaded an audio message on the Brilliant Idiots SoundCloud page. The Breakfast Club co-host stated, "I posted this today because I wanted to address some clips that have been floating around from the podcast, as well as VladTV, where I failed to have productive mature conversations around issues that demand respect."
Charlamagne (born Lenard McKelvey) also acknowledged that he did a poor job communicating his thoughts on the subject of rape culture. He offered an apology to any rape survivors that may have been triggered by his comments.
In addition, CTG's wife spoke on-air during Tuesday's Breakfast Club broadcast. She defended her husband by denying he ever raped her, adding the sexual encounter referenced in the viral clip was completely consensual.
Jessica Reid - the alleged victim in the '01 rape case - reportedly contacted the South Carolina Supreme Court’s disciplinary counsel in order to challenge the prosecution's decision to allow McKelvey to cut a plea deal. Charlamagne has repeatedly denied sexually assaulting the now 32-year-old woman.
