(AllHipHop News) One of the most memorable pop culture stories for 2018 will be Kanye West's full embrace of Donald Trump and the Make America Great Again movement. Ye's MAGA turn and comments about slavery shocked/upset many of his fans and led to some detractors demanding the star be "canceled."
Charlamagne Tha God has been critical of West's actions in certain instances. However, The Breakfast Club radio host has also taken up for the controversial entertainer at times.
BuzzFeed News caught up with Charlamagne for Profile. The Shook One: Anxiety Playing Tricks on Me author took the opportunity to advocate for Kanye and call out the rapper's faultfinders.
"I think we’re all wack and we’re all hypocrites. I think we all contradict ourselves because we see a guy sitting there screaming that he may have mental health issues, but everyone wants to cancel him," said CTG. "They’re not being empathetic to the fact that he really may be going through some things. I think everybody supporting Donald Trump is dealing with some type of mental health issue."
He added, "I can't even take anything that he's saying serious. He's clearly telling us that something is wrong. So it's like, why are we putting so much stock in anything that's coming out of his mouth when he's telling us something is wrong?"
Charlamagne was scheduled to take part in a "Times Talk" about mental health with Kanye West, but he called off the event following Ye's highly publicized White House meeting with Trump. The two Hip Hop personalities did connect for a filmed conversation earlier this year.
