Check Out Prince's Original Version Of "Holly Rock" From Classic Hip-Hop Flick

A rare version of Prince's rendition of Sheila E.'s classic just dropped!

(AllHipHop News) The Prince Estate has shared an animated video for the late singer’s version of "Holly Rock" – the latest track to be released from his posthumous demo album Originals.

The singer produced and co-wrote "Holly Rock" for his friend and frequent collaborator Sheila E., who had recorded the song for the 1985 hip-hop film "Krush Groove."

Prince’s version was recorded at Los Angeles’ Sunset Sound studios earlier that year, during the same week he completed work on his hit track Kiss.

Although it was not a hit at the time, the full six and half-minute version has become a fan favorite due to the scarcity of copies of the Krush Groove soundtrack.

Originals is the first time that "Holly Rock" has appeared on a Prince-related album, and the first time the song has been made available digitally.

The full album, which features early versions of several hits penned by the late star, including The Bangles’ "Manic Monday," Martika’s Love… "Thy Will Be Done," and Sinead O’Connor’s "Nothing Compares 2 U," is available now.
