(AllHipHop News) Last August, photos of Rihanna and Donald "Childish Gambino" Glover spread across the internet, leading to speculation the two megastars were working on a project. Three months later, a trailer for a movie titled Guava Island made its way to social media.
Guava Island is now officially set to premiere this weekend. According to Vanity Fair, the Hiro Murai-directed film will stream on Amazon Prime for free for 18 hours on April 13 and on Amazon’s Twitch at 5 pm PT on the same day.
The hour-long "tropical thriller" will also reportedly premiere on Coachella’s YouTube Channel on Saturday. Childish Gambino is headlining the music festival's Friday night lineup.
Guava Island was written by Donald's brother Stephen Glover, the Emmy-nominated screenwriter of Atlanta. The movie was shot in Cuba. Black Panther actress Letitia Wright and Game of Thrones actor Nonso Anozie are part of the cast as well.
“We wanted to assure that we had as much creative freedom as possible,” said Guava Island producer Carmen Cuba. “Everything about this project and Donald, in general in terms of his intentions for his life and his career, is to protect his freedom; freedom of expression and freedom of process.”
Donald Glover's filmography includes roles in Community, Atlanta, Magic Mike XXL, The Martian, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Solo: A Star Wars Story. Rihanna starred in 2017's Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets and 2018's Ocean's 8.
