Common To Lead A Parade Celebrating Chicago and New Orleans’ Musical Legacy

COMMON IS AN HONORARY GRAND MARSHALL FOR A BIG UPCOMING PARADE!

(AllHipHop News) Rap star Common wants you to get out more and experience the parks in your neighborhoods.

The Chicago rapper his teamed with the National Park Foundation to present the “New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park to Chicago” musical experience.

Here is the concept. Each one of the “Park Exchange Series” showcases the cultural diversity of various urban cities in the U.S. by “exchanging” park experiences.

The event with Common is the second of three events in the “Park Exchange Series,” which is a part of the organization’s 100th anniversary celebration.

“Chicago and New Orleans are two culturally diverse cities with rich histories in music and I’m honored that the National Park Service and National Park Foundation invited me to be a part of this experience,” said Common. “I grew up on the Southside of Chicago and think the second line will be an especially meaningful and wonderful tradition for our community. I hope this event will inspire people to find their park.”

Common will serve as Honorary Grand Marshall on June 11 during a celebration in Washington Park. After Common delivers the opening remarks, performances by the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and New Orleans’s Treme Brass Band will commence.

The event starts at 11:30 AM central time.
