Congressional Black Caucus Demands Swedish Authorities Release A$AP Rocky

The political battle over the rap star intensifies.

(AllHipHop News) Members of the Congressional Black Caucus are slamming Swedish authorities for detaining rapper A$AP Rocky by detaining him on suspicion of assault.

The "Wild for the Night" star, real name Rakim Mayers, and members of his entourage were arrested on suspicion of assault in Stockholm on July 2 after an alleged street brawl following a performance in the city.

He has been held in a Swedish prison, pending a decision from prosecutors on whether to pursue charges.

Members of the CBC held a press conference today and blasted Sweden for treating A$AP bad and said race was a factor in his detainment.

The Swedish ambassador here in D.C., as well as the U.S. embassy in Stockholm, their position has been, that they will not interfere in anything," Harlem Rep. Adriano Espaillat said during a press conference in Washington D.C. today.

"They're just going to sit by idly and watch these young men linger in jail, for 23 consecutive hours a day in solitary confinement. Stockholm Sweden is going to walk out of this with a black eye. they are a country that proposes to the rest of the world that they are a mecca, a haven of democracy. yet they have shown to be completely the opposite."

Stars including Justin Bieber, T.I., Tyga, Quavo, Sean 'Diddy Combs, and Michael Jordan have urged Swedish officials to release Rocky.

Those in charge of the Stockholm Detention Center, where the 30-year-old rapper is being held, have denied reports he is being kept in inhumane and unsanitary conditions.
