D’Angelo Vs Friends Announced As Next ‘Verzuz’ Battle

What songs are you looking forward to hearing from the singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist?

R&B legend D’Angelo is confirmed as one of the participants for an upcoming Verzuz event. The online music series, curated by Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, revealed the Neo-Soul crooner will be performing live from NYC at the end of the month.

“Happy Valentine’s Day, loved ones. Our gift to you. Live from the @ApolloTheater in Harlem. Who you think is pullin’ up to take on the King on February 27th? Sure to be a legendary night!” read a note posted to the verified Verzuz Instagram page on Sunday.

Previously, Verzuz presented faceoffs such as Teddy Riley vs Babyface, Erykah Badu vs Jill Scott, Alicia Keys vs John Legend, and Ashanti vs Keyshia Cole. This upcoming battle marks the first time organizers only announced one half of a matchup.

D’Angelo is expected to invite several other musicians he has collaborated with in the past to join him for the special showcase. Social media users are already guessing some of the names that could show up at The Apollo that evening.

The Virginia-born Grammy winner’s discography includes songs with Lauryn Hill, Method Man, Redman, Common, Snoop Dogg, Erykah Badu, and more. D’Angelo has also worked with Ali Shaheed Muhammed, Angie Stone, Raphael Saadiq, DJ Premier, Q-Tip, Questlove, and others.

Following his debut studio album Brown Sugar coming out in 1995, D’Angelo also released 2000’s Voodoo and 2014’s Black Messiah. All three projects have been celebrated as classics by fans, professional music critics, and other recording artists.

The D’Angelo Vs Friends Verzuz event is scheduled for Saturday, February 27 at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT on @verzuztv’s Instagram Live and Apple Music.
